A training programme on “GIS, Remote Sensing and Applications in Forestry Sector” started at Babarmahal, Kathmandu from 4th December 2011. It was organized by the Forest Resource Assessment (FRA) Nepal Project in cooperation with the Department of Forest Research and Survey (DFRS). A total of 16 officials (14 from the DFRS while one each from the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) and its REDD Cell) are attending the Tarining Programme.
Mr. Sahas Man Shrestha, Director General of the DFRS inaugurated the training programme with his opening remarks while Mr. Tuomo Kotimakki, Chief Technical Advisor of the FRA Nepal Project highlighted on the objectives and importance of the Training Programme. Mr. Ramesh Shakya, National Programme Coordinator of the FRA Nepal Project was also present in the Inaugural Session.
The Training Programme consists of 8 modules, and will take 34 working days to complete. The first part of the Training Programme will be completed on 22nd December 2011 while the second part will be conducted in January, 2012. It will be conducted by the GIS and Remote Sensing experts from the FRA Nepal and the DFRS.
As part of the capacity building programme, the same Training was conducted by the FRA Nepal/DFRS for 17 officials of the DFRS and other departments under the MoFSC two months ago.
