This library began its services early in 1962 (B.S. 2019) as a small supportive unit of the Forest Resources Survey Office (FSRO). In 1976, FSRO was restructured as Forest Survey and Research Office (FSRO) with library as section. In early 80's with the technical assistance from Nepal-UK Silviculture Research Project, This library was further developed and managed under the Forest Research and information center (FRIC), one of its two components. With the restructuring of the Forests Ministry in 1989, this library was separated from the FRIC and given the status of the Central Forest Library (CFL) within Forest Survey and Statistics Division of the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation. Again in Mid July 1993, this library was given the sectional status of the newly created Forest Research and Survey Center (FRSC).
